Our Intentions for this Group

Over the last six months we have organized a series of discussions in a small group for which we prepare by reading articles of interest to both professional economists and general readers. Unlike the basic conversation groups, each meeting will have a fixed topic based on one of the articles. Discussions will be in English.

If you have suggestions for articles, please add them in the Discussion Forum below, with links so that others can find them on the Web. If you like an article proposed by another member, please make a comment in the Forum and we will choose the articles for our meeting by consensus.

I agree. This is why it's a good word to learn ;) ...The willigness to hurt or to offend ('offence' is the noun but not a verb...).

Actually, I feel there is a difference.

sly = cunning.

But snide means the willingness to hurt, offence.

snide: good word. I knew only "sly"

As we've been discussing diplomacy this Saturday some questions occured.

For instance:

сидеть на двух стульях - to have one's cake and eat it
бросить камень в чей то огород - make snide remarks about smb, make digs at smb
